Scam Company

Scam company! Don’t trust them. They gave me a price and told me $10,000 insurance will cover and credit card for payment. After they locked me in with them to move my stuff from IL to FL the insurance was $1,200. Once they loaded my stuff in the truck they asked for more money and told them to bring it down and won’t ship it, then they said okay will go with the price in the bill of landing. At the delivery they showed up late not on the delivery day and blackmailed me to pay them $1,000 and it has to be in cash only in order to give me my stuff. The customer service, sales, and dispatch will not answer your phone calls and will block your number after you sign with them and they will tell you to deal with the drivers! They use a truck that has a different DOT number and different company name. Don’t stuck with them.

Long-distance move from Jacksonville, FL to Laughlin, NV

Never received my items from Star Van Lines

I hired Top Tier Moving Group on August 29th 2024 for a long distance move, not realizing they were a broker. I was desperate. My uhaul I had reserved for months had issues with equipment the day of pick up, so I had to improvise last minute. I reached out to Top Tier Moving Group thinking they were a regular moving company. I paid them $1,100 and they assigned Star Van Lines as my movers. Upon Star Van Lines arrival on August 30th 2024, I paid them $450. I received a bill of lading with the remaining balance of $450 due upon delivery/unloading. I still have it! I've been having a problem ever since. They loaded my stuff and put it in storage for me for 30 days free of charge and been holding my stuff hostage since September 30th 2024, when I reached out requesting delivery. It's November 11th 2024. They told me on three different occasions that my stuff was being loaded and would take four to six days to deliver. The last time they text me, they tacked on an extra $1,500 when my bill of lading (T4997238) clearly says my remaining balance due upon delivery is $450. Which means they're price gauging. Star Van Lines is now asking $480 as of today. Still above the bill of lading, instead of giving me a discount for the HUGE inconvenience, as a reputable company would. And Top Tier Moving Group insist they paid, out of pocket, $1000 to Star Van Lines on my behalf. This only means Top Tier Moving Group gave Star Van Lines the $1,000 out of the $1100 that I paid them. (Top Tier Moving Group) I could have found my own moving company, and as if they really helped me! Now they're claiming there's nothing they can do. Mind you, they don't tell you they're a broker and not a moving company until shit hits the fan. Which is also misleading. I even reached out to the owner of Star Van Lines to no avail. He's the one requesting $480 Top Tier moving group makes you think they're helping you when they're really hindering you. I have filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Motor Carrier Services, FTC, Attorney generals in both States, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. I have also file a police report as well as a small claims lawsuit against both companies. This is unacceptable. And a clear breach of contract on both parties parts.

Long-distance move from Houston, TX to Los Angeles, CA

Professionals! Thanks

Star van lines did great move for me ! I had some doubts before hiring them , the price was not the cheapest on a market but they acted very well . Packed my items in pads , stacked properly and delivered from Houston to Los Angeles in one week after loading . My last move was awful because of lots of broken items , actually I was afraid to get the same negative result , but no damages or scratches on my furniture this time !So my wife is the happiest person in all California! Thanks again to star van lines and it’s very cool to hire professional movers than some cheap companies who will act weird and brake your stuff !

Long-distance move from Missoula, MT to Tulsa, OK

The 5 star reviews are likely fakes

The moving companies paperwork quotes an estimated 4-7 days to get your stuff with the fine print saying up to 30 business days. It took 25. So many of our items were damaged during the move it is insane. On top of that there was $700 worth of tools lost/stolen. It is a great business model honestly. They lie about the initial quote so you pay the deposit, then call later so you are already out a $1100 non-refundable deposit so you cave and go through with the bigger price, they take their sweet time getting your stuff to you and then hope you don’t notice that a lot of things are missing or damaged as they pass the buck on to a garbage claims company.

Long-distance move from Tampa, FL to Banner Elk, NC

Worst moving scam ever

This company moved our things after we signed a contract with a broker, Budget Moving and Relocation. One truck picked up our things and weeks later a different pick up truck and trailer arrived in our new town. They told us 5 days to move and it ended up taking 21 days and the driver refused to deliver to our house. We had to hire someone else to complete the move and many of our things were missing! They offered us $75 for $2,500 in missing items and ultimate cost was twice the original quote. Avoid them!

So many red flags, do not use

Due to character limit, this review is unable to cover all issues. Do not use this/these companies at all if you want professional moving services.

This is my third long distance move, with a third different company. The prior 2 moves went off without a hitch, with the minor exception of one being a few days late. Even so, I would use that company again if they serviced the area I was moving to.

The contract stated that half of the remaining balance be paid upon pickup of goods and half upon delivery. He stated that Zelle would be fine for paying this, but his phone was broken and he wouldn’t be able to accept it until he got it fixed. We paid the maximum for Zelle ($1000) at his request with the small amount left over for this half to be paid the next day. He called 2 days later, stating that his phone was fixed and he was unable to find the initial $1000 we paid. He requested that we attempt to resend it. He then attempted to cash both of these, for which we have receipt from our bank account showing that he did so. Knowing the number of scams out there, we intentionally kept only the amount to pay in the account and he was therefore unable to cash in $2000 instead of the $1000. He then waited until the day of delivery to claim the additional $139.70 and claimed he had not yet received it.

Less than 24 hours before goods were set to be delivered, Destin (Max) called and stated that he will only be accepting cash upon delivery of goods. At pickup, he stated in clear view of one of our ring cameras and on video that he will accept cash, money order, Zelle, or credit card. He stated that he had an issue with someone’s credit card in the past week and didn’t want to accept them anymore because of this, and that our Zelle takes too long to pay him as it is set up through our bank. Demanding cash only upon arrival is a major red flag, so we were sure he was trying to scam us at this point. The contract specifically states cash or money order and he cannot therefore refuse to accept money order (this is how we paid).

The goods were finally delivered, with most of it going off without a hitch. The one mover bumped his hand truck into the brand new refrigerator in our place, leaving a dent, but besides that, they were quick and expedient. Destin (Max) called again and demanded payment in full, refusing to go through the inventory with us to verify that everything was there, refusing to provide receipt for having paid the full amount, and refusing to have his people put together an Uuni pizza oven they had completely disassembled upon pickup. The contract specifically states that the moving company must reassemble any pieces that they disassemble for packing, but he argued for at least 30 minutes about how it’s “unbelievable” that we expect this and won’t pay until he fulfills his part of the contract and that “we’re delaying his workers from getting on the ferry back”. When pointed out that the contract specifically states it, he kept going back to a part of the contract that he chose to be more lenient on because we were calling him out on his attempted scams instead of accepting that the contract states it and therefore he must provide it. He just kept demanding that we pay for services and sign saying everything is present. He also did not provide a paper copies of anything for the workers for us to sign, so he just told us to “sign on the PDF” he sent through email despite the fact that it was not possible on a phone. There was no paper copy of the bill of lauding or inventory with the workers. After arguing for 30 minutes about his workers putting together the Uuni pizza oven that they had disassembled, and repeatedly stating that it’s ours so “we know how to put it back together”, he finally had his workers attempt to do so. They tried for 25 minutes and were unable to figure out how to get the pizza stone to stay in as they took out the stone and the bracket holding it back in (pieces that are all in the oven assembled upon arrival). He claimed he would send a receipt the next day and send someone out to put the oven together. As of 0936 the day after delivery, no receipt has been received, and no update has been provided about when our pizza oven will be reassembled.

TLDR:

No paper copies of bill of lauding or inventory provided, refused to go through inventory and demanded we sign off and pay

Attempted to take out money twice for pickup, denied attempting to do so despite receipt on our end showing he did

Changed his “accepted” methods of payment within 24 hours of delivery to cash only, was likely forced to accept money orders via MovingAPT

Disassembled an item (Uuni pizza oven) completely and refused to reassemble it without 30 minutes of arguing, failed to reassemble it before having his movers leave - it is still disassembled

When owner was called on his attempted scams, became extremely rude and continuously attempted to blame my wife and I for “not being nice people”.

Wish I could leave less than 1 star

100 n Howard St. Ste 4925

Spokane, WA 99201

Wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They overcharged us, broke our belongings, and refused to take responsibility for anything. They re-packed things that didn't need repacking so they could charge us for tape and cardboard and did not deliver all of our belongings. Our bill was over 15 thousand dollars (15K)

They have taken down our review stating that that it's a different company.

Star Van lines hired Craig's List movers on the receiving end of our move and when those folks broke both the light fixture and the lathe in our hallway, Star Van Lines refused to take responsibility or fix anything. We are disgusted with their company and their service. Do not use Star Van Lines out of Spokane, WA.
